This type of acne is caused by hormonal fluctuations & is often related to your menstrual cycle, usually (though not always) appearing right before or during your period. It can also be caused by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - PCOS - ( ๐ต ๐๐ฉโ๐จ ๐ข๐ ๐๐, ๐โ๐ข ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฅ๐ง๐ค๐๐ก๐๐ข ๐๐ฉโ๐จ ๐ข๐ ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ ๐ต ), pregnancy, menopause & increased androgen levels.โฃ
โฃ
Hormonal acne is characteristically on the lower half of the face around the chin/jawline and is often very angry, very inflamed, very sore and very stubborn to treatโฆItโs also a bloody nightmare to cover with makeup as itโs not like your normal breakout (texture, inflammation, blah blah blah..)โฃ

Iโve got a beast at the moment that will not be hidden and it bloody hurts..โฃ

I had clients in my studio today and when this hormonal disaster hit my face I was bloody gutted, initially thinking โ๐ ๐ค๐ข๐ฏโ๐ต ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฌ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ญ๐ช๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ดโ and set to work trying to cover it - layers of colour correction, concealer, powder, you name it - it wasnโt working, I was crying, my skin was screaming in pain and then I just thought, fuck it. โฃ

Skin as angry and vulnerable as this does not need layers of product, it needs to breathe! Iโd tell any client this and yet I was sat there 723 (ish) layers deep, introducing bacteria to what is essentially an open wound and causing myself pain all because I was embarrassed about my skin.โฃ
โฃ
Well. How bloody stupid!โฃ
โฃ
So, I did my eyes & the rest of my face but left the affected area bare, making sure there was no product on there. It needs to heal, it does not need to be covered. โฃ

Breakouts happen. We shouldnโt be ashamed of our skin.โฃ

Iโm off to take some ibuprofen and put a hot water bottle over my uterus. โฃ
